Witch on a Bicycle

Small-scale insanity, the Feed

Another smaller Feed today, which is nice. I like days that have fewer dead and injured cyclists.

First up is the second wave of stories on the cyclist hit in Lost Wages. Bicyclist dies in Las Vegas after being hit by car Get that worst one out of the way first Bicyclist Killed By SUV In Apparent DUI and Driver charged with DUI after deadly accident on Desert Inn also Bicyclist killed, driver charged with DUI There are some discrepancies in the facts of the case between reports, including the ages of the cyclist and driver, how far the vehicle dragged the cyclist, and where the cyclist died, but one thing is certain, the driver was drunk as a skunk.

Even on a bicycle you need to start seeing motorcycles. Motorcycle, bicycle collide at intersection The young cyclist did not see the motorcycle bearing down on her at more than 35 MPH before she entered the intersection and she got lucky. First because it was a lighter vehicle than a car or truck there was less momentum transfer, second the motorcycle rider was trying to avoid hitting her, and third because motorcycles are narrower than cars or trucks the rider had more room to maneuver away from the collision and reduce the angle of attack, which also reduced the momentum transfer in the wreck. And as the bumper sticker says “Start seeing motorcycles”.

A cyclist in Hawaii is injured. Bicyclist critically injured in Pearl City collision Nothing much to say on this one, the driver claimed to have been blinded by the sun but proceeded through the intersection anyway. Clear case of negligence on the part of the driver, who hit a cyclist that had right of way even if the sun was not a factor.

From Jolly Olde what appears to be a case of hit-and-run although it wasn’t spelled out as such in the article. Cyclist injured in collision If there was a cyclist laying on the side of the road with no car standing by to assist or with damage from the collision, and the cyclist had obviously been hit by something, then either it was a hit-and-run or an alien abduction. Or it could have been both, those flying saucer jockeys are never too keen on hanging about and exchanging information. ;)

And a brief moment of sanity from MN. Blaming bikes is ‘fundamental attribution error’ It’s what I keep telling people, cyclists that obey the traffic laws are invisible until you hit them, but run a stop sign and everybody sees it.

And that’s it for today for bike wrecks, I may do some personal blogging unrelated to people getting hurt or killed on bicycles later in the day. I do have an actual life away from this computer, you know.
