Witch on a Bicycle

The wild and wacky world of the Feed

Well, things in the Feed were a little wacky today, as in some classic WTF moments about jurisprudence. Fortunately jurisprudence takes place off the roads away from cars and other motor vehicles so no actual physical injury can result from a mistake.

First of the jurisprudence moments takes place in OR. JUICY SUITS: Cyclist Sues for Opened Car Door and Cyclist gets doored, sues for $100,000 For those wondering about the $100k pain and suffering, the cyclist suffered a broken bone in her hand that never healed correctly, causing permanent pain. Having suffered injury that even when it “healed” was never right again, I can sympathize with the victim’s pain and suffering claim.

More jurisprudence from VA. Charity Ride Cyclists in Hot Water Fight for their Rights in Court The cyclists in question were given tickets for “rolling” a stop sign on a deserted road. I’ll leave the rest of the description to the article.

A cyclist gets hit in Upstate NY and the news report reads like it came from the UK. Bicyclist injured in crash in Millwood I had to laugh at the comment at the bottom of the article on how informative the article was, not. Actually there’s nothing in the article about another vehicle, just severe injuries.

In NYC a man is brutally assaulted while riding his bike. Harlem man knocked off bike and killed after blow to the head, police seek attacker There are a number of questions about this one, like why the assailant ripped his shirt off before the attack, why did he attack the cyclist?

A wreck results in medivac to a hospital, not much on the wreck, but lots on the medivac. Helicopter lands on Vista Del Mar to transport injured bicyclist From the description of the injury the cyclist was hit pretty hard. Nothing on how he got hit though.

A driver kills a cyclist and leaves him to die in OH and he gets… Hudson man sentenced to probation for not stopping at scene of fatal accident Yes, you can kill someone and get away with murder, as long as your victim was riding a bicycle. I would have added in OH, but to be honest I think there are at least 49 states where that would be true.

DC bike news makes news. Breakfast links: On two wheels, variously Lots of strange stuff in this one…

And finally from TX come an article of the outrage felt when Goodhair vetoed the Vulnerable Road Users bill. Cyclists question Perry’s bill veto Questions have been brought up about who paid for the veto.

And that’s all I have today.
