With apologies to Treasure of the Sierra Madre’s most famous line, here is the wit and wisdom gleaned from today’s Feed.
First up because of the number of media outlets that covered it, is a wreck in Joisey, between a bike and a SUV that was mentioned earlier in my blog. VINELAND: Bicyclist killed after being struck by SUV and Bicyclist killed in Vineland identified; was a Clearview Regional High School math teacher also VINELAND: Bicyclist killed in crash identified as Gloucester County teacher In the bare report I linked to yesterday I mentioned that it must have been a very high speed wreck because of the injuries to the driver, well with all the collateral damage done to roadside structures we now know it was a helluva wreck, also a non-avoidable wreck for the cyclist, and still no word on why the SUV left the road. My theory is that there was some kind of a medical emergency, because nobody gets that mad at a cyclist that they hit trees and signs and telephone poles (or whatever it was the driver ran into) after hitting the intended target (the cyclist). I’m thinking the driver lost control for one reason or another and the cyclist was just in the wrong place at the wrong time. RIP cyclist and swift recovery to the driver if it was some kind of medical emergency, or if it was on purpose to “get” the cyclist, a long slow and painful death, with astronomical medical bills.
A hit-and-run in OH. Cyclist Injured Following Hit and Run Not much in this one except that the driver hit the guy from behind and then drove off. Standard diatribe against hit-and-run, delete rabid badgers and replace with cute kittens and deadly cat allergy. Delete cement mixer and replace with chain link cage. (I don’t want the kittens getting hurt) Since there was so little information about the wreck all I can say is standard for a hit from behind between intersections, keep one eye on what is in front of you and one eye behind. Or frequent glances to a rear view mirror if your eyes won’t move independently like a gecko.
Shampoo-Banana is having a run on bike wrecks this week. Bicyclist injured when hit by vehicle Kid on sidewalk injured by minivan leaving fast-food place drive through, and Bicyclist Killed in Accident in Urbana Man falls from bike while riding on sidewalk and gets hit by car in road, and if you didn’t see that in the article I got that information from a reader of my blog, whom I can’t quote. I have to protect my sources, y’know. Hey that makes me a big time journalist, I have sources to protect
I don’t recall the initial wreck, but this follow up is encouraging. Boy injured in hit-and-run ‘awake and alert’ Good to see that he will recover and also good to see that LEO are looking for the vehicle that hit him. With all that damage it shouldn’t be too long before someone finds and turns her in. I think I like the kittens and cat allergy better than rabid badgers, badgers being mean and ill-tempered, while kittens are cute and cuddly. Dieing from cute and cuddly is so much more ironic than mean and ill-tempered, don’t you agree?
And a report that reads like a UK wreck report, only not as detailed. BICYCLIST KILLED WHEN HIT BY TRUCK At the time the report was posted this was all LEO was giving out.
While MN celebrates an 11% drop in motor vehicle fatalities, bicycle and motorcycle deaths are up. Traffic Deaths In Minn. Fall 11 Percent Total traffic deaths were the lowest since 1945, but motorcycle deaths were at their highest point since 1985 and cyclist deaths since 2000. The implications are obvious, more people were on 2 wheels, so fewer people got killed in cars. They were killed on motorcycles and bicycles instead.
Jurisprudence in VA. Herndon Attorney Defends ‘MS-8’ Attorney successfully defends cyclists against bogus stop sign tickets. Yay us!
And an anonymous rant against wrong way cyclists in Augusta GA. Rants and Raves you have to go down the list a ways, there are a lot of angry people in Augusta.
And that’s the whole shooting match today. I have a church gig tonight, so don’t expect anything extra in the blog tonight.
