The feed was very international today, besides the furor in Ottawa there were cyclists hit in Bahrain, Tennessee, Massachusetts, Jolly Olde, California, (see I do know more than just the postal abbreviations for the states) and Washington (not DC).
Up first, Tyler Farrar didn’t just decide one day to become a world class cyclist, he had an example in his own dad. Well Dad was almost killed in a head on crash a while back, and this is the story. The joy, and sorrow, of cycling The odds of the best spinal surgeon in the Wenatchee area being saved by the second-best, an employee of the first and the only other spinal surgeon in hundreds of miles, well improbable but once the best was injured that only left the second-best… As for how you can avoid a similar crash, draft a tank with a second tank as your follow vehicle. You’ll still have trouble with head on drivers but the oncoming vehicle will be much … flatter.
A minor driving without a license and liquor in his car cuts off a cyclist and causes injury and gets? Bicyclist injured in accident I don’t know what LEO were thinking in declaring the driver not at fault, had this been between two motor vehicles and the teen driver pulled in front of another vehicle causing damage and injury you better believe they would have found the teen driver with booze in the car and no license at fault. As for what you can do to avoid a similar wreck, just be aware of driveways and look for cars using them.
Another CA cyclist hit from behind by a motor vehicle driver in too big a hurry to wait until it was safe to pass. VALLEY CENTER: Bicyclist killed in collision The cyclist was dodging something on the road when the motorist was passing, and there was a vehicle in the oncoming lane, but had the driver just been a little more patient and waited until the other lane was clear before passing there would not have been any incident.
A follow up report on the Pulaski TN bike wreck mentioned here last week. Bike Accident Brings Attention To “Three Foot Rule” My response to the online article from last week made the print edition of the Pulaski local newspaper. I’m (more) famous!
Lance (yes, that Lance) was informed about the wreck in Ottawa and sends his best. Lance Wishes Injured Cyclists Well When 5 cyclists are assaulted with a deadly weapon, even in Canadia, everybody hears about it. Such is the power of the Internet, and my blog!! (muahahahaha!!) I hear through back channels that all but one of the riders is doing well, or has already been released from hospital to home car. Still no confirmed word on the most seriously injured of the 5.
And to make Ottawa look even worse in the eyes of the world… Cyclist Injured in East End Crash Just a report that the cyclist was hit, nothing on how or what direction the motor vehicle was moving or what kind of motor vehicle it was. Hey Ottawa, that makes 6 in less than a week! I realize your cyclist hitting season is shorter up there than here in Balmy TX, but is it really necessary to try for the annual bag limit in a single month? Just kidding, I know that this is just what statisticians call “noise” and is not indicative of any long-term trends, but still, it really makes you guys look bad. Keep this up and they’ll be calling you the Florida of Canada, and not in a complimentary way.
Another wreck report from Jolly Olde. Cyclist injured in accident Typical UK wreck report, long on useless details but short on actual information. Well they are the country that invented trivia.
Bahrain kills cyclists just as good as western countries. Man killed by minibus At least in that country if you kill a cyclist you spend a night or 2 in “protective custody” in the Greybar Hilton.
A lifestyle article about NJ cyclists riding to cure cancer. Central Jersey riders taking part in Pan-Massachusetts Challenge Good luck, and some days I wish curing cancer was as easy as riding a bike 190 miles in 2 days.
And in an infrastructure article update to a story I posted about here about 2 weeks ago, success! Speed limit to be lowered on part of Shore Drive in August I still find it funny that drivers complain about “entitled” bike riders and then complain that the speed limit was reduced on “their” road…
And that’s the Feed for today. Did you like yesterday’s web-surfing bonus?
