Got to go buy gas to mow the lawn, and the Feed

We don’t have money to buy food, but we have money to buy gas to mow the lawn. Yeah, no, I can’t figure that one out either, and I’m supposed to be the one with brain damage… So while my legs are in good shape I’m going to take a break in the middle of creating this post to go buy gas for the lawn mower (the only ICE powered device currently owned by the the Poet household).

Up first a cyclist in NC is hit from behind. Bicyclist killed The cyclist was towing a bike trailer and wearing a glow-in-the-dark clown costume at the time of the wreck, and the driver has been charged in the death. The wreck took place before sundown on a road that ran roughly north-south and the cyclist was headed away from what little sun angle would have been in anyone’s eyes at the time of the wreck. IOW, there was nothing the driver could offer as an excuse for hitting the cyclist and he was arrested and charged by the LEO on station. Commendable! I just wish this was the norm rather than the exception. More Greenville Man Charged In Fatal Bicycle Accident

Updates on the condition of an Austin cyclist that was hit-and-run by a driver impaired by marijuana. Update On Injured Cyclist and Intoxicated Driver Here’s hoping the victim recovers and the driver never sees the outside again.

A wreck in CA. Girl Riding Bike Hit by Car in Murrieta New paradigm in CA: Cyclist “lost control” just prior to wreck. I smell a new excuse to hit a cyclist from behind and escape punishment, the “new” SWSS. Anyway, hit-from-behind protocols to avoid and get the infrastructure right to prevent.

From the Great White North several links to a cyclist wreck. Carleton student identified as cycling crash victim and Cyclist killed after collision near Bronson and Holmwood also Cyclist killed on Bronson Avenue identified At this point it looks like the cyclist was hit riding salmon in the bike lane trying to get to a place to cross to the correct side of the road nearer her destination. That still leads to the question of what the motor vehicle was doing in the bike lane when she got hit. I’m going to place major blame on this one on the infrastructure because 1) not allowing for desire lines for cyclists (the cyclist wanted to go one way, the infrastructure was headed the opposite way) and 2) because even though the cyclist was riding salmon she was still in the bike lane and theoretically should not have had to worry about any vehicle larger than a cargo trike hitting her in her lane. She was hit at high speed by a car that should not have been in the bike lane. So, hit-from-behind protocols to avoid, and get the infrastructure right to prevent with major emphasis on the infrastructure.

Hit-and-run in an exotic location. Arrest after Larnaca hit and run You would think with most of the island’s road network being laid out by goats and people riding donkeys 3000 years ago that motor vehicles would be forced to move at a non-lethal speed. Since the mode of the wreck wasn’t mentioned I can’t say how to avoid, but then again how many readers of this blog are ever going to cycle in Cyprus?

One Response to Got to go buy gas to mow the lawn, and the Feed

  1. I lived near the Everett crash site, and your post provoked me to register to comment on Heraldnet in response to one of the “license bike rider” troll comments. I noted that it was not a real encouraging situation when it was the one WITH license and insurance who swerved across a six lane road, killed someone, and then stopped thanks to the assistance of a power pole. Might “jcs” have ulterior motives to troll? Of COURSE.
