Another potential Gigi public appearance, and the Feed

November 21, 2009 · 1 Comment

My friends(?) at the Dallas Winter Solstice celebration (SolstiCelebration) have asked if I can ride my bicycle as part of the opening festivities. I have already been asked to wear a penguin costume (Opus, the comic strip character) so I guess I’m supposed to ride Gigi indoors, surrounded by people, while I wear a penguin costume. This could get interesting. Well at least this time I was asked to come first, then Gigi was requested. Last time it was Gigi that was requested and since it was my bike I could ride it her.

Up first because it is a sign of the Apocalypse. Police charge woman in death of Va. Beach cyclist That’s right, a cyclist was killed and the driver wasn’t drunk, on a cell phone, texting, or otherwise distracted, and still charges were filed against the driver. I wonder what the end of the world will be like… The cyclist in this case was wearing a helmet and hi-visibility garb.

Another report on the drug-dealing driver that hit a cyclist while texting a drug deal negotiation. Personal Injury Accident Notice: Texting driver strikes cyclist in N.J. Lawyer blather, but the interesting thing in this wreck was now we know the cyclist was wearing some kind of body armor when hit besides the helmet and reflective vest. “She had been wearing protective gear and a reflective vest and helmet when she was struck by the car.” Still didn’t prevent broken bones but to be honest even being inside a car doesn’t prevent broken bones when you get hit by a car or truck.

This is the only time I like seeing someone get hit riding a bicycle. Bike thief struck by vehicle during getaway try, police say Unfortunately the thief will most likely survive his close encounter. But given the nature of the injury what little smarts he had will be long gone, so even if he doesn’t go to prison he will get to be housed in an institution.

CHP is trying to work out how the cop hit the cyclist (again?!) in San Diego. Police reenact crash that killed bicyclist in University City I’m willing to bet that if they do a good reenactment they will find the cop was at fault and/or speeding.

Another report on the City of Brotherly Love over-reacting to a statistical blip in bicycle/pedestrian wrecks. Council’s problematic bicycle crackdown For perspective, “The proposed fine for headphones ($300) is almost three times the fine for running a red light

And another report that just really chaps me off. Former Asheville firefighter pleads guilty in cyclist shooting He pleads guilty to trying to kill the cyclist with a gun, should have been attempted murder, and he gets, wait for it… 120 days in jail. Not years, not A year, not even a full 4 months. one hundred twenty days! I hope the DA can sleep with the knowledge of how badly he has dropped the ball on this case.

And thank the Lady Ghisallo, we are done with today’s article. Reminder unless there is breaking news of great import there will be no post for tomorrow. My sanity is more important than the weak Feeds I get on Sundays any way.

Back at work on my “Other job”

October 27, 2009 · Leave a Comment

The software glitches over at examiner.com have been solved so that I can again submit my deathless prose for remuneration. Check it out at Change of focus, let’s keep you alive on your bicycle The subject should be familiar to most of you here, it’s the protocols I tell you about nearly every day on how to not get hit, or at least how not to get hit so bad you get killed. I’ll be doing a regular report of the North American wrecks also, Monday through Friday if I get any North American wrecks to report that day. It will be pretty much a cut’n'paste from here but with some language cleaned up, and also more attribution for my fellow writers over at examiner.com. Since I will be getting paid over there I will be using a different closing then my usual here. No “Billed @$.02, Opus” for those guys (I don’t get paid that much there), instead it will be “Have fun riding your bike”.

Also I’m in negotiations for a monthly column with a startup car magazine. I can hear jaws dropping all over the country at that news, but really I love cars, it’s the drivers I have problems with. I may never actually write the column, we’re still way far apart on the word count and rate at the moment, as well as for access to their technical department. but if I get that gig it still won’t reduce your favorite blogger’s output, except I might cut back on weekends. I do want to get some time to actually ride my own bike(s) other than to the store and church, and I do have responsibilities at church that will need to be taken care of.

And that’s all I have right now.

This just in: Newt Gingrich and the Witch on a Bicycle agree on something!

October 26, 2009 · 1 Comment

Yes, it’s true! Newt and I are in agreement that the Saratoga Springs NY ban on children riding their bike to school is a load.

Gingrich: Bike power

Whodathunkit? Usually Newt and I are about as close on the issues as Reagan and Gorbachev.

You won’t believe this “stuff” in the Feed

October 4, 2009 · Leave a Comment

You would not believe some of the reports I got in the Feed today. I’m talking off the wall “stuff” that defies comprehension by sane people.

Topping the list today was the FL cop that tased a cyclist who then crashed and was run over by the cop. Fla. officer ran over, killed suspect during chase and Bicyclist Killed; Ran Over by Cop Who Tried Tasing Him Out The Window First There are so many unanswered questions on this that I really can’t begin to comment. Apparently the cop only flashed lights and did not use the PA to order the cyclist to pull over before trying to use the Taser. But like I said, too many unanswered questions on this one.

Still in FL is a bike rider that runs into a parked car and homicide is investigating? Police: Bicyclist Hits Car, Dies Apparently since homicide is investigating there is suspicion that the other vehicle seen beside the cyclist had something to do with the wreck and possibly contributed to the seriousness of the wreck. And there was another cyclist involved wreck that didn’t have anything to do with this wreck and that’s all I know about the other wreck :P

The driver that hit 2 teens in OH is charged. Driver indicted in hit-and-run crash that injured cyclists Give him a fair trial and a decent hanging, or failing the hanging, ban him from being in a motor vehicle for life except for emergency vehicles transporting him for medical reasons.

And a hit-and-run wreck in Philly is caused by a DUI. DUI is charged in hit-run that injured city cyclist OK this is just too much. Wolverines or kittens in the chain link cage? I hate DUI drivers with a purple passion, doubly so when they hit-and-run.

Conflict over infrastructure in Montreal. Who owns the road in Montreal? I see similar problems here in Dallas because pedestrians decide to just stop in the middle of the bike path (in the rare places that actually have a bike path) and don’t move for other users to get by. Pedestrians treat any place that doesn’t have cars as pedestrian space even if it isn’t.

More on a proposal to charge drivers whenever they hit a cyclist or pedestrian, unless they can prove misconduct by the non-motorized road user. Motoring Groups Angered by Plans to Make Drivers Legally Responsible for Any Accident Involving Cyclists or Pedestrians Drivers have been getting a free pass when they hit cyclists and pedestrians in the past and are irate they have to prove that their WMDs were being used safely when a pedestrian or cyclist is injured. Poor babies!

Riders going from LA to San Francisco have a common thread in their stories, they’re all wounded veterans from Iraq or Afghanistan. A therapeutic challenge: Veterans with physical, mental injuries will bike from San Francisco to Los Angeles The Witch on a Bicycle supports this effort, for what that’s worth.

A big charity ride’s going down in MO. Hundreds turn out for Tour de Cape bike ride This one sounds like fun…

And why electric cars won’t save the environment without changing the way we make electricity. Magical Thinking The problem is the current electrical grid is mostly powered by fossil fuels which moves the source of the pollution from the tailpipe to the smokestack, arguments about “clean coal” not withstanding.

And that’s everything (really everything this time) for today.

A bizarre wreck, redux, and the rest of the Feed

September 2, 2009 · Leave a Comment

Strange things are going on up there in Toronto, and pretty much the usual in the States. I strongly suggest that if you value your sanity that you not read the comments sections of any of the articles I have linked today.

Up first the strange saga of the former AG that assaulted a cyclist with a Saab convertible continues. Former Ontario AG Bryant charged after bike courier dragged by car and killed and this report of another wreck that injured another cyclist while investigators both public and private were trying to determine what happened More cyclist blood shed on Bloor St. and a protest Cyclists mourn ‘good man’ As for the chants of “Murder, murder!” I don’t know yet, but assault with a deadly certainly seems to be likely. Had this been staged for a movie I wouldn’t believe it, but it is happening in Real Lifetm so what am I supposed to do? Wait for the director to call “Cut! Print it!”? And as background to the story comes this report. Bad infrastructure, adrenalin adding to car-bike tensions I can’t believe they are blaming cyclists for having adrenaline when someone almost kills them. :P

Our second story that belongs in a magazine not the news was changing as I was gathering the links for today’s post, new links to updated reports kept coming in as the events unfolded and local to the event media reported it. This is the hit-and-run that killed a 74 YO woman riding her bike on a quiet street near a major highway in Tulsa OK. Illegal immigrant held in death of Tulsa cyclist and Troopers make arrest in fatal hit & run accident This is a wreck that if you value your sanity you should not read the comments section. If stupid is contagious you would get a fatal dose from these articles’ comments. I’m not going to comment on the immigration status of the driver, but I’m totally pissed off about the lack of license, insurance or registration for the vehicle. The driver had no business even being on the road, regardless of his immigration status.

More on the IA cyclist killed by a speeding driver in a hit-and-run wreck. Des Moines cyclist killed on road near Cumming The number of people that are using this to try to get bicycles banned from county roads is just disgusting. This is another article that reading the comments section is not a good idea.

A MA driver admits fault to a LEO and doesn’t even get a ticket for hitting a cyclist. Car crash in Newton Highlands sends bicyclist to hospital The driver, Anderson Donascimento, 27, was sitting on the curb saying repeatedly, ‘I didn’t see her.” That is an admission of guilt, not an excuse. As near as I can tell from this report, this was another hit-from-behind wreck, standard precautions apply: mirror(s), escape route, and willingness to bail to the escape route or let the bike take the hit and do as much damage to the vehicle as possible while you bounce down the side of the road away from the bike/wreck.

First of a series of CO wreck reports. Bicyclist Badly Injured in Mark Dabling Crash They’re trying to make this a SWSS.

Someone has a severe case of the stupids when he assaults a cyclist with a deadly weapon because he was riding the same model bike as was stolen from his son. Colorado Springs man strikes bicyclist in case of mistaken ID This should be a case of assault with a deadly weapon, not second degree assault. As for how to avoid, the crazy mofo was using his vehicle as a weapon, how do you avoid that?

Good news for the victim of a Vail bike wreck that had been in a coma. Benefit planned for injured Vail cyclist He has come out of the coma and now they are trying to raise some cash for his medical expenses. It would have been better to not have been in the wreck, but given the circumstances, good for him.

The victim of a SWSS dies in CA. Bicyclist involved in last week’s Watsonville hit and run crash dies Blame the victim when the only surviving witness is the driver that killed him and the physical evidence indicated he was riding on the far right edge of the street…

And in a country that has gone from bicycle heaven to drunk driven Hell in my lifetime things are getting a little tense. Drunken-driving cases spike in China Nothing about any specific wrecks here, just shudder and point at the people trying to invent a car culture just as cars become extinct…

And that’s the whole snarky thing. I’m going to mow some lawn to make some noise and do violent things to helpless plants and get rid of some of this anger about the IA and Toronto stories, then have some dinner.

Another quiet Feed

July 12, 2009 · 2 Comments

Ahh, Sunday! the day when the Feed is normally at it’s quietest. There are fewer reports of death and dismemberment but more politics a word derived from poly meaning many and tics meaning bloodsuckers, AKA many little bloodsuckers. I kid, somewhat.

First up is a strange wreck of an experienced transportational cyclist. Police say longtime cyclist and advocate for using bicycles killed in Cary collision and Cyclist Dies After Getting Hit By Car also Bicyclist killed in accident This is so strange, I just can’t see this guy getting killed unless the other vehicle was trying to beat the red light while he was making his left turn on the yellow.

A wreck that was a cross between the Council head on crash from last year and the drunk driver trying to take out cyclists a few weeks ago. 1 Dead, 2 injured in car-bike accident According to a person claiming to be a witness to the wreck the driver went across 2 lanes of traffic and onto the opposite shoulder to hit the 3 cyclists and then back to his side of the road to where he was stopped later. This is not a wreck you can avoid with anything other than luck. I’m sorry but the mode and the closing speed makes this the kind of wreck that Juno Fortuna decides the outcome. And if you don’t know Juno Fortuna, Google it.

An OH cyclist is mugged for being a cyclist. Another cyclist attacked in Toledo They spit on him and then stopped the car and beat him up, and didn’t even bother to rob him. I would say that comes about as close to a hate crime against a cyclist as I have ever seen.

And in VA a report on the cyclist rally to reduce the speed limit on a very dangerous road. Cyclists rally, calling for safer Shore Drive If you think this headline is familiar they used it for the pre-rally story from earlier this week. Notice the comments of the entitled car-heads complaining about how entitled the cyclists are acting, irony being lost on them.

And that’s all I have today.

Why I call motor vehicles WMDs

June 25, 2009 · Leave a Comment

This is a separate post from the bike wrecks to highlight why I keep referring to motor vehicles as WMDs. First a WMD is a device that can destroy buildings or kill or injure more than one person at a single use (actually the definition calls it a “shot” but motor vehicles aren’t shot, they’re semi-guided projectiles).

First up is a building destroyed by a single vehicle. Family looks for jobs, new home after Monday crash The house was destroyed by a pickup truck, not the much larger vehicle the truck was bounced off of. Imagine the destruction that would have ensued had the house been hit by the tanker truck. One hit from a single vehicle and a 150 YO house was destroyed, damaged beyond repair. This is one of the descriptors of a WMD, the ability to render a structure uninhabitable with only one projectile or usage (high explosives are a class of WMD).

Another instance why I call motor vehicles WMDs is this wreck. 4 injured by out of control taxi The wounded were in a large arc, not concentrated in any one area of the street. This is similar to the spray pattern of a machine gun, again with a single projectile. This is another descriptor of a WMD the ability to engage multiple targets with a single weapon.

The last reason I call motor vehicles WMDs is the Sand Springs OK incident that killed 2 out of 3 people in a single impact event, a third descriptor of WMD, massive lethality in a single engagement. I don’t know why the Iraqi were blowing up cars when they could have just driven them into the troops and done almost as much damage, maybe more if they hardened the vehicles up a bit. Hardening a vehicle is much easier than turning it into a bomb. Having done both the only thing that would have made adding explosives easier than hardening would be an inability to procure sheet steel in quantity. Well that and a lack of desire to live…

Lots of multiples and updates, The Feed

June 17, 2009 · 2 Comments

Lots of stuff going on on the Internet about bicycles. There are lots of infrastructure articles as bicycles are being phased back in as transportation rather than as toys. I think that’s our biggest hurdle to overcome with bicycles as transportation now, that bikes are fun to ride even as transportation. Cars are not fun to drive any more, and haven’t been for quite some time. They used to be fun when I was younger, but by the time I was about 30 driving other than in a sanctioned competition was more of a chore than entertainment. I stopped driving back in 1995 when I was only 36 years old, when the engine on my Hyundai was broken by a chunk of scrap iron laying in the road, as I could no longer get to SCCA sanctioned competitions on my days off, and the only time I drove was to or from work, and sometimes to take the kids to school on my days off. Those are chores, not entertainment. But when I started to ride my bike to work, commuting was fun again, at least most of the time. Going to the grocery store was a challenge, not a chore. Ditto taking a letter to the post office.

Another cyclist is hit in Boise, the 4th in as many weeks. Cyclist, motorist cited after accident in Boise and Police cite both driver and cyclist after collision also Both driver and cyclist cited for Tuesday morning crash in Boise From what I have been able to piece together from all the reports, the cyclist was riding on the sidewalk, riding against the flow of motor vehicle traffic (there is no “wrong way” on a sidewalk, but I digress), and the driver made a right turn without looking where he was going. The cyclist was ticketed for I think riding the “wrong way”, and the driver was ticketed for not looking where he was going and driving into someone that was in front of him that he should have seen before he turned. Now I do not condone riding on a sidewalk, sidewalks are segregated infrastructure reserved for pedestrians, but they are also bi-directional. You can’t go “the wrong way” on a sidewalk because they go both directions. But don’t ride there, anyway.

More on the crisis in Boise. Solidarity bike ride for Kevin Pavlis set for Wednesday at Boise’s Camel’s Back Park and Cyclists, motorists can co-exist: Kristin Armstrong, husband share safety advice From the comments sections I can see there’s lots of animosity on the part of drivers against cyclists for a variety of reasons, but drivers have to remember they are in control of deadly weapons, cyclists remember they are soft targets, and everybody should just chill.

Sentence is passed on a man who was driving stoned when he killed a cyclist. Putnam man gets up to 3 years for killing cyclist One to 3 years, and with prison overcrowding he would have to be a total putz behind bars to get the full 3 years. TANJ!

Someone shot a kid for riding his bicycle? Cyclist, 14, shot in head, dies after brief coma I don’t understand shooting a cyclist unless you’re a pedestrian. The only reason to shoot a cyclist would be to tell everybody you did this on purpose, that this was a deliberate killing. And there is a word for deliberately killing someone, murder.

Closer to my home a TX cyclist was hit from behind near San Antonio. Bicyclist killed in Atascosa County accident No word on if the cyclist had lights or reflectors (but if they don’t it’s always mentioned) but half the comments section didn’t think he did. And some thought it was funny that a cyclist was hit. Comments sections are worth what you pay for them I guess.

Another cyclist hit in CA. Girl injured after being struck by car on Quito Road OK the cyclist was definitely not riding by the rules of the road in this case. Ride with traffic, but if you read my blog then you already do that. People that read my blog are not the people I need to read my blog…

A MO town discovers a new revenue steam. Town takes aim at anti-bicyclist rage If the fine is low enough they could generate a steady stream of income. The trick would be to have the fine low enough that it doesn’t make a big impression but high enough to generate profit from imposing it. Or to come from the other direction high enough to make a profit but not high enough to change the behavior.

More RAAM articles. A race of epic proportion and Driven to compete: Two-wheeled warriors keep pedal to metal I wish all the competitors in the RAAM luck, and may the best man/woman/team win their respective division.

They’re thinking about putting up mirrors under the traffic lights in London. Boris Johnson planning traffic light mirrors to save cyclists from lorries and Safety boost for cyclists: junction mirrors to alert lorry drivers Trucks turning left across the bike lanes is a major (more than 75%) killer of cyclists in London, with cyclists getting killed after stopping at traffic signals, sometimes pulling up beside a truck and sometimes being there when the truck pulls up and the driver doesn’t look for a cyclist. The mirrors will help if the drivers use them.

And another article on the WHO report that most people killed by cars are not the ones that benefit from cars. Traffic Accidents Kill 1.27 Million Globally, WHO Says Cars R Coffins but most are not riding in them when they kill. And that doesn’t even consider the ones that die from pollution, much less global climate change. The irony of GCC is that while the Earth as a whole will get warmer some places will get colder…

And that’s all I have today, more later as I find it…

Wasn’t this one of the signs of the apocalypse?

March 26, 2009 · 1 Comment

Another strange one this morning. I mean really strange, Bizzaro strange, world upside down strange. I think we might be seeing signs of the Second Coming. Two drivers have gotten tickets for hitting cyclists in the same week. Yes, I know, that’s impossible, but it happened. I covered the one yesterday, and I have another today. I never thought it could happen.

And getting to that miracle first is this report from IA. Cyclist injured after being hit by truck The driver got a ticket for careless driving when he went into the bike lane and hit a cyclist. Was the LEO drunk or something? All kidding aside this is some of the best news I have read that had someone injured in it. I mean sure it sucks to have been the guy that got hit but it has to make it hurt that tiny bit less that the driver that hit him was given a ticket. I know that being hit-and-run and the driver escaping did nothing for my disposition during my recovery. And many if not most drivers that hit cyclists in TX never get a ticket or any other prosecution even when it’s blatantly obvious the driver was at fault. To have two reports in two days of drivers getting tickets, well it just astounds me. I’m speechless but obviously I can still type.

Chattanooga is still trying to educate drivers about where cyclists should be (on the roads) and sometimes the cyclists themselves aren’t too clear on the concept. Chattanooga: Cycling safely Articles like this remind me we still have a long way to go to get back to where we were as cyclists in the 1960s when it was recognized that bicycles were road vehicles with a right to use the roads.

The survivors of a victim of vehicular homicide are using the courts to extract some kind of justice from the situation. Bike fatality on Route 111 is subject of suit If LEO would do their jobs and arrest and prosecute drivers that kill cyclists there would be a lot fewer survivors having to seek justice in civil courts.

And finally from Jolly Olde comes another salvo in the helmet wars. Helmet-wearing issue is brought to a head again I’m getting tired of the same old arguments about saving one life yadda yadda yadda. Has anyone stopped to think about if that one life is worth saving? If fatal brain injury is reduced to catastrophic brain injury that counts as a life saved, but aside from breathing and growing moss on his north side can that person actually do anything? Was that life really saved? What about my case, where I was a spoken word poet and a computer help desk operator before the wreck and barely able to speak at times after the wreck? The life I have now is nothing like the life I had before, does that count as a life saved? US helmets are basically designed for a 12.5 MPH impact and become less and less effective above that speed becoming basically useless at impact speeds above 20 MPH, and do nothing to prevent rotational injury to the brain which can be much harder to detect and much worse for the social functioning of the person carrying the brain around. In fact the soft shells of the majority of bicycle helmets sold in the US actually contribute to rotational injury in cases where the head gets a glancing blow. The skull remains intact but the brain gets Osterized (and I know that’s an obsolete term, that’s what Google is for, look it up). Well folks the UK standard is even weaker than the US’. So what are they thinking about when they call for styrofoam hats to solve the problem of cars hitting cyclists?

And that’s all I have this morning, maybe more later.

Another huge Feed

March 25, 2009 · 1 Comment

Today was another huge Feed with a pretty decent signal to noise ratio and a minimal number of dead motorcyclists. As much as I hate saying so in this blog I have as much sympathy for the scoot riders as I do for bicycle riders, even though some of you scoot pilots treat me personally about the same as many car drivers. But under the law proposed in TX you and we fall under the same classification when we are on the roads, vulnerable road users. As do everyone on foot regardless of how they got there, those riding horses, riding in horse drawn wagons or buggies, or driving open farm equipment. Everyone that uses the roads with potentially nothing between you and another vehicle in a wreck but your clothes is a vulnerable road user.

Up first today is another report of a driver getting a ticket for hitting a cyclist when not impaired by drugs or alcohol. Steamboat briefs: Woman receives citation after accident with cyclist That’s 2 weeks in a row that a driver has gotten a ticket for injuring a cyclist, that has to be some kind of a record. As for how you can avoid the same kind of wreck, well in this case you can’t. The cyclist was already using his escape route and was as far over as he could get when the driver hit him from behind, that’s one of the reasons she got the ticket. Sometimes you can be doing everything absolutely right and still get hit. For grins and giggles you can use the link to the original story on the right hand side of the article and read the anti-bicycle rantings of a certain driver who already has multiple major tickets and who was posting under his real name. Guess what is going to happen the next time he so much as buzzes a cyclist?

Another SoCal hit-and-run. Driver sought in Antioch hit-and-run that injured bicyclist From the description of the wreck, the cyclist was turning right when the driver turned left and hit him as they turned into the same lane. This is what we call a left cross wreck, where the driver failed to yield right of way to the cyclist as required by law or regulation in most states including CA. A great deal about this wreck is unknown to us mere mortals who write the news and comments, like if the driver was signaling or if the cyclist signaled his turn, but the cyclist’s signal would not have made any difference because the driver still was required to wait until the cyclist had cleared the intersection before turning. As before to avoid this kind of wreck you must always leave yourself an escape route and be willing to use it if drivers do something unexpected like turning into you at an intersection.

Still in SoCal, the OC to be precise, a man is hit by a right-turning vehicle while riding his trike through an intersection. Man killed while riding trike identified From witness descriptions of the intersection this guy never had a chance, as construction completely blocked his view of traffic and vice versa. Sometimes you end up in situations like this because of other’s stupidity or disregard. The only thing I can say about it is to get clear of the situation as quickly as possible when you can make certain that the way is clear. From the description of the other vehicle it wouldn’t have made any difference for the driver if the construction hadn’t been there as his vehicle had enormous blind spots up close and would not have been able to see the adult tricycle.

And a kid gets hit by a truck in MI. West Michigan cyclist, 12, killed by pickup truck There isn’t enough from the article to say what happened or how to avoid it, neither was there enough to say if a helmet would have made any difference.

Updating a report from earlier this week on a wreck Monday evening. FHP Indentifies Bicyclist Killed In Crash Additional information indicates that reduced visibility at the time of the wreck may have been involved in the cyclist’s decision to cross at that moment.

Police Chief suffers an “Oops!” moment while on a charity ride. Fall cuts short charity bike ride for North Miami Beach police chief Pack riding takes additional skills not picked up during solo rides, and as pointed out in the article the physical demands of riding can diminish one’s situational awareness, even for experienced riders.

Another lawyer choosing after the fact protection over before the wreck prevention. Wearing a Bicycle Helmet May Save Your Life if You are in a Bicycle Accident Helmets can save lives, but don’t depend on them.

Another person mistakes wearing a helmet for doing something about bicycle safety. A plea for bicycle safety The report also mis-states the stop as yield law pending before the Oregon legislature. The law allows bicyclists to treat stop signs as yields slowing to check for traffic and then riding through if clear, or stopping completely if not clear. You know, the way most people in cars treat them most of the time.

And from Jolly Olde comes the first of our reports on wrecks with no information. Cyclist seriously injured in Digmoor Road collision UK media laws can be so bothersome to those of us who need the information to protect our readers.

Some good news is that killing a cyclist will still get you a ticket in the UK. Man on crash charge after boy is killed Still nothing about the actual mechanics of the wreck to tell you how to avoid.

And finally another one gets jail for killing a cyclist. Jail for driver who left fatally injured cyclist in road I’m not sure if they are giving him the jail time for killing the cyclist or for hit-and-run, but he’s going to jail, that’s good enough for me.

More later as it comes in.
