Bleary-eyed and foggy-headed, But we have a Feed

The local pollen hasn’t been treating me too well the last few days, and the only allergy med I’m allowed to take because of my BP medication makes me sleepy all the time. But I have persevered and filtered the Feed for your reading displeasure.

Up first is a report from Boston where they had multiple bike wrecks in the same day. Gruesome wrecks raise concerns for cyclists Don’t read the comments, way too many “I paid for the roads with my car taxes you bikers stay off!” comments. There was a wreck in this report about a car that ran head on into a bike, but nothing about the lane position or if one vehicle was running a red light. The other wreck was the trolley track incident linked here yesterday.

In CA a man was arrested a year after he hit and crippled a woman riding her bike and left the scene. Saratoga man arrested a year after hit-and-run that injured competitive cyclist I love how the Murky sugar-coats what happened to the cyclist. “Injured” makes it sound like she got hurt but now she’s all better, when the truth is a world-class athlete was crippled probably for life, and at a very young age which means she will die younger than she would have had he not intervened, her earning potential is lower because of him, and her quality of life has suffered because he couldn’t slow down and move over 3 feet. I hope they put him under the jail, but I’m fresh out of rabid wolverines to put there with him.

All I know from this report is that the bike hit a motor vehicle head on, nothing about which side of the road either one was on or anything else. Bicyclist struck, killed in Mount Pleasant At least in a wreck like that the cyclist doesn’t suffer long.

The Huffington post reviews the top 20 bicycle-friendly cities in the US, Texas cities being unremarkably absent from the list. 20 Most Bike-Friendly Cities In America: Bicycling.com Ranks The Best Cities To Ride In (PHOTOS) If it wasn’t for Lance living in Austin, Texas wouldn’t even make the top 20.

In the UK a cyclist is injured (and later dies, see the comments) near where Robin Hood used to work. Cyclist injured in city centre accident

Still in Jolly Olde, another hit-and-run against another cyclist. Car sought as cyclist injured in hit and run Why is the car being sought, do they think the driver will still be inside waiting to be arrested?

And that’s all the news that gives me fits in print.

  1. Re: the Mt Pleasant fatality.

Other news reports have consistently stated that the cyclist was on the wrong side of the road.

Also, the collision occurred well before sunrise, and the local TV news reported that the cyclist was wearing dark clothing, no lights, no helmet.

There’s no way of knowing what he was thinking.
