Bike world still in turmoil over CO DA’s decision not to press felony charges in hit-and-run

Yep, it’s a pretty big thing that has people that have heard about it in a tizzy (and I’m in that group myself) as the DA for Eagle county in CO says that the manager of $1 billion+ can’t be tried for felony charges of hit-and-run because he might lose his $20 Million/annum job. I have been reading about criminal charges in the news for more than 40 years, and this is the first time I have ever heard or read that charges wouldn’t be filed because the accused might lose his job. In fact I have never heard the post-conviction status of the accused ever be a concern of the prosecution ever in my life. If you missed the link on Saturday here it is again: Alleged hit-and-run driver may not face felony The comments section is getting increasingly vitriolic against both the accused and the “prosecutor”.

Close (in the same state) to the WoaB World HQ in the suburbs of Hell, we have a SWCC near Houston. Cyclist injured by teen driver in NW Harris County Interesting that they mention the cyclist’s lack of helmet in the same sentence as they mention that his only notable injury was not to his head. OK I’m going to go out on a limb here and take this story at face value and tell you that intersection protocols as linked at the top of my blog might have helped prevent this wreck or at least reduced the amount of injury the cyclist sustained.

A little further afield a very sketchy report on a cyclist getting hit in El Paso. Border Patrol agent, bicycle rider injured in separate crashes They covered 2 injury wrecks in 5 simple declarative sentences. The entire article only took 17 lines of text on my browser. There is not even as much information on the bike wreck as your typical UK report. About the only positive thing that can be taken from this report was that the cyclist probably wasn’t at fault for this wreck, as the description was the vehicle hit the cyclist not the other way around.

A CA wreck between a cyclist and a semi where LEO are at least admitting the semi driver might have been at fault. Los Altos Hills bicyclist killed in big-rig crash was a mother, nurse and a ‘go-getter’ Yeah, getting hit or hitting a semi, either way there’s not going to be a lot of damage to the semi and usually the cyclist is going to be dead. This appears to be hit-from-behind, or possibly a lane-change wreck, so use the hit-from-behind protocol and assume the semi driver can’t see you… I might add at this point that any vehicle with blind spots as big as those on the typical semi is criminally bad design and I don’t use that term lightly.

In far west Canuckistan, another cyclist was hit crossing the road. Cyclist injured in collision on Island Highway If the story is accurate all I can say is wait for traffic to clear before making a left turn to the other side of a highway. If it was a SWCC then hit-from-behind protocols…

From my ancestral homeland, a cyclist is killed on the road. I don’t know if this link will stay up, I had 3 other links to this story that have dropped the bicycle crash from their reports. Three killed in separate road crashes LEO were still trying to piece together the cause of the wreck as of the posting of the article.

And that’s all the news that gives me fits on this cool and clear Monday. We finally get a decent early-fall day, and it’s after Halloween. Texas has some of the weirdest weather some times.
