As I compose this post, reports are coming in about the shooting in AZ, at this time they are saying in some reports that there are as many as 12 shot with 5 dead, other reports are saying just the 5 are shot and only 1 dead, so I don’t know if the report of the death of the Congresscritter by a head wound is accurate or not.
Next state over from the Congressional shooting/assassination attempt someone in a SUV SWSS a cyclist. Bicyclist struck by SUV along River Road Notice the claim that the cyclist was riding on the shoulder and swerved into the lane of traffic for an unknown reason, the classic SWSS scenario. For cyclists, the best way to avoid a wreck like this is to ride well into the lane, not hugging the curb or fog line.
A Sheriff’s deputy that killed a cyclist is sentenced to 30 days in jail. Washoe County Deputy Sentenced in Fatal Collision with Bicyclist The charge the deputy plead guilty to is way too lenient for the facts of the case. The 30 day sentence was the maximum for the charge…
Outside of North America, an elderly cyclist is killed in Enn Zed. Cyclist in fatal collision with car and Elderly cyclist killed in crash From the pictures of the scene it appears to be a hit-from-behind wreck, the driver appears to be a young woman. Cell phone use is not verified yet, but I suspect it at least. Alcohol and drugs are not believed to be involved. To avoid a similar wreck always use hit-from-behind protocols when on the open road.
An article on the legal infrastructure for cyclists in CA. Streetsblog Interview : Howard Krepack The biggest change this guy would like to see is making hit-and-run as serious a charge as DUI, so that there is no incentive to leave the scene if you’re drunk, so that victims can get more timely care and maybe get more survivors of bike wrecks.
While I watch the breaking news about the shootings in AZ which is now saying that there were 18 people shot of which 6 have died, the Congresscritter not among the dead, that’s all the news that gives me fits, about bicycles anyway.
