I thought Spring was Idiot Season, and the Feed

I have been reading the non-bicycle news (politics, the economy, crime not involving people getting hit riding bicycles, that kind of thing) and it seems that the summer and fall slowdowns we normally get in the idiot quotient (people doing stupid stuff for no apparent reason/ all stuff) just hasn’t been happening this year. I have been seeing this in the bike news, but even more in the regular news. For example, when Issac flooded the streets of Charleston SC people in small boats and kayaks went out to check out the streets and make sure there were no people trapped by flooding that needed help. While this is not the smartest thing to do from a safety of the boaters and kayakers point of view, it happens every time there is a flood and could be considered “normal” humanitarian behavior. Then people got out in those same streets with inner tubes, air mattresses, and pool floaties. Not just a few, hundreds if not thousands of people did this, like a gigantic pool party in a flood. And this is not even a particularly bad example of Stupid, just the one that came to mind first.

After a cyclist is almost hit by a car the adrenaline gets a bit out of hand in NYC. Video: Cyclist Wanted For “Inciting Riot” During Fashion’s Night Out Audi-Trashing The thing about this that aggravates the snot out of me is NYPD is investing hundreds more manhours in this than they do when someone kills a cyclist or pedestrian with a car.
