Running a bit late after visiting used bookstores, and the Feed

I’m having lots of fun this visit to TN, with a run to some used bookstores large and small, including one that was about the size of a car dealership with service bays and two floors out in the western suburbs of Nashvegas. I’m talking thousands of square feet of used books, CDs, Vinyl, DVDs and VHS videos. It was like I was a kid in a huge candy store, but I exercised immense control and restricted myself to buying only one item, a Haynes manual from 1995 for bicycle repair. Looking through it the one repair I was really needing instruction for carried the label of not suitable for a home repair, take to a bike shop (thanks bunches, I am the bike shop), but there was a lot of information that will still be useful to me.

A wreck in Houston just down the road 3 day’s ride from WoaB World HQ in the Beautiful Suburbs of Hell. Cyclist hit by vehicle seriously injured in northwest Harris County The weapon vehicle was moving at a fair rate of knots when the cyclist was hit. Intersection wreck, use the protocols to avoid and get the infrastructure right to prevent. The actual intersection shows a traffic light but neither vehicle operator was blamed for running a red light, which leads me to believe that the cyclist was caught out by a stale green and a driver that didn’t wait until the intersection was clear before proceeding through the intersection.

I think this might be a story I was asked about recently in a comment left on an earlier post. Loris man faces new charge after Myrtle Beach bicyclist dies from July 10 collision Intersection wreck where the cyclist’s attempt at avoiding the wreck caused a different wreck that eventually killed him, so in this case the protocols were not effective in avoiding the damage, just the initial wreck. I see the legal infrastructure being used to prevent any further wrecks, so maybe a different intersection treatment with separate phases for bicycles on the traffic control to further mitigate the possibility of harm from a similar wreck.

Update on a 2012 wreck in LA. Trial date set for driver accused in January 2012 BR cyclist’s death The driver blew a 0.304 BAC%, nearly 4 times the legal limit of 0.08 and more than 6 times the proposed 0.05 limit the Feds are trying to impose because people who are not alcoholics are impaired enough to be deadly dangerous at this level. That it has taken this long to get to trial, and that the trial will be more than 2 years after the offense, are both disgusting.

More about a wreck in NC last week. A cyclist’s death The description of the road that is the only through link between two residential areas is terrifying.

Update on an IL hit-and-run. Deputies bring in teen for questioning in fatal hit and run near Cahokia I still hate hit-and-run drivers… Nothing on the mode of this wreck, but I think I may have covered it better right after it happened last week.

A wreck in OH. Perry Township woman riding bicycle collides with minivan I’m trying to figure out what the heck happened from the narrative, because it sounds like a mixture of SWCC and buzz job. The cyclist was crossing the center lane when the minivan passed her and hit her?

Another wreck in GA that really bugs me. Lafayette teen on bike collides with police cruiser The cyclist was on a borrowed bike that did not have working brakes at the time of the wreck. This is a good time to remind people about the ABC Quick Check – Bicycle Safety before riding especially a bike that you are not familiar with.

A cyclist is left crossed in CO. Loveland teen cyclist in critical condition after being hit The cyclist was severely injured by the turning vehicle because the driver failed to yield right of way to the through vehicle. Intersection wreck, intersection protocols to avoid or mitigate damages, and get the infrastructure right to prevent. More Loveland teen cyclist in critical condition after being hit

From not-so-jolly Jolly Olde, a driver is fined the equivalent of $53USD for killing a cyclist… Taxi driver fined £35 with 3 points on his licence after cyclist killed in collision There were comments left about an insurrection taking the jurist in custody and placing him in chains for this travesty, not sure if they are still up…

Other news about drivers that intentionally hit cyclists, UK edition. Driver, Emma Way, Who Tweeted About Hitting A Cyclist, Charged With Three Offences I really think this should be charged as either an assault with a deadly, or an attempted murder…

In a not-really-shocking report from Enn Zed a truck driver that killed a cyclist while passing a group of cyclists illegally (by his own admission) is not charged with anything in the death. Police call on cyclist’s death stuns her family Cyclists are the new “N-word person”, you are free to kill as many as you want as long as you are sober and have a driver’s license (and in many places they are not even enforcing the license). More No charges over cyclist’s death and Family may pursue cyclist’s death after police reject charges

More from Enn Zed. Police name cyclist killed in crash This is initially a SWSS wreck that punted the cyclist into the oncoming lane, something I find to be ludicrous. More. Cyclist killed in Christchurch crash named and Christchurch cyclist killed in crash named

A wreck in Oz that is somewhat open for debate as to who did what. Male cyclist, 41, critically injured in head on crash with car in Maryborough There is what Daffy Duck famously called a “pronoun problem” in the narrative as to which vehicle operator failed to yield…

Last link, even the Pope knows that bicycles are more holy than motor vehicles. Buy humble bicycles, Pope advises future priests, nuns

And those are all the links that gave me fits.
