OK it’s just after 1700 here at Casa de El Poeta, because I spent all day running back and forth about 6 miles. I went to the ATM at the bank to get the rest of the money I needed to pay for the water heater and new window unit first, and just missed the bus coming back from the bank. That meant another 45 minutes cooling my heels at the transit station until I could catch the bus to the local home supply store (that I’m not going to mention in this little rant because nothing that went wrong today had anything to do with them except that they were the people I was trying to give money to). Well I finally got everything taken care of there only to discover I had failed to account for the cost of the city permit to hook anything up to the water supply. Never mind that I’m just replacing a broken leaky thing with the same thing that wasn’t broken or leaking, I still had to cough up the $$ to get the permit (and the thing that really gets my goat about this is there will be no inspection of the installation to make sure nothing is going to contaminate the water supply, it’s just a big money grab…) So I had to go back to the bank to get more $$ from the machine, and I had just missed the bus there, so another 45 minutes wasted until the next bus. Catch that bus and make a mad dash to the ATM to get my money and get back before the bus left, only to see the bus turn the corner as I was on the wrong side of the tracks to flag it down. That meant waiting another 45 minutes until the next bus (for those of you keeping score at home that is 3 missed buses at 45 minutes each missed bus) to get to the store and pay the total for the new window AC to replace the one killed by a tossed rock from mowing the grass, the new water heater, installing said water heater, and the city fee for installing the new water heater (did I mention that I get nothing from this city fee? I get nothing in exchange for this city fee except the plumber gets to stay in business). I’m now out a total of $710, and guess what, the bus went by again while I was walking to the bus stop. At this point I just said “Fornicate it, I’m walking home,” and got home about 15 minutes before the bus ran. So I spent about 6 hours and never got more than 3 miles from my house. I also missed getting lunch. So if I seem crankier than usual today you’ll know why. And I just looked over the receipt, and the $700+ only pays for the water heater and doesn’t cover the AC at all. So I have to go back again tomorrow and pay another $400+ for the AC. I can’t think of a curse word strong enough to convey the anger and utter disgust I feel at the moment. I shall have to make one up: Mother-Stabber!
Just down the street, literally, from WoaB World HQ in the Beautiful Suburbs of Hell. Hit-and-run driver kills man on bicycle in Northeast Dallas and Hit-and-run driver kills bicyclist in Lake Highlands Hit-from-behind wreck and apparently deliberate so I place this in the “Not avoidable by human cyclists” category. Get the infrastructure right to prevent.
An OH woman is injured in what appears to be an infrastructure related incident. Newark woman, 67, hurt in bicycle crash on path LEO believe she ran into a bridge abutment on the bike path, causing her injuries. Since there were apparently no other vehicles involved, getting the infrastructure right would be the only fix.
A rider in a-not-a-race was injured in NC. Cyclist listed in critical condition after collision with truck in Bike MS race The mode of wreck appears to be a hit-from-behind as the cyclist was getting ready to make a left turn, but I don’t know if the cyclist was directed to make the left by police or if the cyclist was going off course for some reason. Or if the driver just decided to hit the cyclist for “getting in the way”. Anywho, hit from behind protocols to avoid and get the infrastructure right for long rides to prevent. More MS Bike participant hit by truck, injured
Still in NC a senior cyclist is killed. Bicyclist killed on WNC highway Hit-from-behind wreck, use the protocols to avoid or to mitigate damages, and get the infrastructure right to prevent.
A cyclist in GA dies after a left cross wreck that LEO still can’t manage to blame on the driver. Augusta bicyclist dies from injuries sustained in Aug. 30 crash Intersection wreck, protocols to avoid or to mitigate the damages. Get the infrastructure right to prevent, and make training LEO about the actual laws a part of that infrastructure, the driver that attempted to make the left turn with oncoming traffic is a killer and needs to be charged accordingly.
Another cyclist is killed in the most deadliest state in the US to walk or ride a bike just hours after a ride to honor another deceased cyclist. Bicyclist killed on Lake Hollingsworth Drive in Lakeland I don’t know how a human cyclist can avoid a car driving on the wrong side of the road. The area is already being studied for improvements in the infrastructure as there was another cyclist killed there recently. More Lakeland cyclist killed in collision
Final (I pray) update on the wreck that killed a cyclist, what, 3 years ago now? Identity theft twist in sentencing of Key Biscayne man for cyclist’s death and Carlos Bertonatti To Be Sentenced In Rickenbacker Hit-And-Run That Killed Christophe LeCanne (VIDEO) The scum is claiming that at least some of the 41 priors were the result of his brother stealing his ID. And that he is suffering PTSD because of the wreck. Let him get treatment for that in prison… I didn’t get any treatment for my PTSD at all.
A CA cyclist is suddenly faced with a lane full of electrical wires as a secondary collision to a drunk driver’s taking out massive amounts of infrastructure. Driver who hit utility pole arrested on DUI charge This is another one of those “not avoidable by human cyclists” wrecks as who expects random infrastructure to fall in your face? In addition there was a hit-from-behind wreck that the cyclist managed to use the protocols to mitigate his personal damages.
An apparent intersection wreck in far West Canuckistan (BC). Cyclist struck The debris field and missing mirror (well actually the mirror was still at the scene, technically the car was missing, not the mirror) speak of a sideswipe collision, either hit-from-behind or a right hook. Either way intersection protocols to avoid and get the infrastructure right to prevent. More Cyclist Hit in West Kelowna
A cyclist participating in a race/ride in far West Canuckistan has a wreck of unknown nature. Cyclist critically injured during GranFondo Whistler bike event Usually I have to send a message to the writer of a news item that big bike rides are not races, the numbers are just to keep track of who paid for the ride and who just “showed up”, but this is different. A “Gran Fondo” is a mass-start time trial sent off in waves with rest stops in place of feeding zones. A rider generally has to stop once or twice during the race to refuel and replenish fluids, so getting in and out of the rest stops becomes part of race strategy. Since the only thing mentioned about this wreck was they had to evacuate the cyclist out of the area I can’t say how to avoid a similar wreck or if infrastructure played a part in the wreck.
Update on the wreck in Canuckistan where the driver left the scene with about half of the front of his car on the ground including the front license plate. Unknown stranger did ‘whatever he could’ to try to save cyclist’s life in Richmond, witness says Heroic stranger did what the driver should have and called 911 and administered first aid.
A Central Canuckistan cyclist is killed by/with a city bus. Collision with city bus claims life of cyclist Nothing about the mode but the rest of the narrative indicates this might be a hit-from-behind wreck so protocols to avoid or to mitigate the damages, and get the infrastructure right to prevent.
A rare double right hook takes out two cyclists in the bike lane in the Great White North. Cyclist taken to hospital after Bedford Hwy. crash The car must have just stopped across the bike lane halfway through the turn to get those results. Intersection wreck, use the protocols to avoid and get the infrastructure right to prevent.
An utterly appalling wreck in the UK. Sailor was banned from driving when his car collided with cyclist in Plymouth The driver was driving in spite of knowing he was banned from doing so until the month after the wreck. He was given the license back a few weeks early, so he “thought” his ban was over.

I’m not sure how to classify this article, but I know I need to link it here. We should waste no sympathy on the driver who killed a cyclist while she fiddled with her satnav The most interesting thing about this article is the comments section was closed and purged of previous comments.
And those are all the links about bicycles that gave me fits. There were a bunch more that gave me fits, but they had nothing to do with bicycles, most were about Syria and a couple were about why the bees are dying…
