My sister-in-law is having a little hen party (no husbands allowed) so I’m banging around the house and on the computer all by myself today after lunch. Since I’m mostly in the cave-like confines of the computer room of my Mother-in-law’s house anyway, it won’t be that big a thing. And the Feed was nice and quiet today, so no tearing of hair or facedesk today…
Up first is an update on a Houston hit-and-run. Driver sought after cyclist left for dead on Houston streets I can’t believe that HPD is still looking for this driver. In TX the usual situation is if they haven’t caught the driver in 24 hours they never will because they stop looking. I think I wrote that hit-from-behind protocols might have helped the cyclist survive this wreck, but I don’t know and he doesn’t remember. Get the infrastructure “up to Dutch” to prevent.
A weak sentence for the deliberate killing of a cyclist in OH. Prison sentence for drunk driver who killed cyclist Only a little over 9 years with multiple previous DUIs? What does a driver have to do to get taken out of circulation permanently when driving drunk with multiple previous DUIs and killing a person only gets 9 years?
And just up the road a bit from the OH wreck, we get another DUI Homicide in MI. Police ID bicyclist killed in suspected DUI crash Nothing on the mode, just that the driver was drunk and they wouldn’t know how drunk until the tox tests came back.
First of two OR wrecks today with a suspected drunk cyclist. Cyclist hit by pickup critically injured near Molalla The wreckage backs up he driver’s claim the cyclist was moving from the edge of the road to the center, which is highly unusual for the SWSS kind of wreck we have here. They are waiting for the tox screen to come back on the cyclist.
Second OR wreck is a left cross in Portland. Driver cited in serious injury collision on SE Ankeny and 7th Intersection wreck with a blind driver who got a ticket over the wreck making it his fault for the insurance settlements… XD Sorry it is just so rare that drivers get tickets for hitting cyclists that I can’t help XD Intersection protocols negated by the driver’s last-second darting across the cyclist’s path, so the only thing that can be done is getting the infrastructure “up to Dutch” to prevent.
A really annoying wreck in Oz. Man arrested over alleged hit-and-run death of university lecturer and cyclist Martin Pearson The good part is they used good police work to find the weapon vehicle and then track down the killer, the bad part is the cyclist should not have been hit in the first place if the driver had slowed down a few seconds until it was safe to pass and not tried to squeeze through a space that was smaller than his truck and the cyclist.
Infrastructure! news from West Canuckistan. Court ruling suggests cyclists passing on the right could be responsible in a crash Well, this tosses the AFRAP law right on its kiester. Can’t pass on the right, then they will have to take the full lane or be found liable if they get hit riding AFRAP.
When stupid writer writes stupid column blaming all the world’s ills on the existence of cyclists, the cyclists get a little peeved at the writer. Cyclists’ tempers rage after criticism Tip from an Internet veteran, don’t feed the trolls.
Lifestyle as a community mourns. Community mourns cyclist killed by suspected DUI driver I’m waiting for sadness to be replaced with righteous anger that the driver was allowed to be free while the victim died…
And this just came in as I was wrapping up the post. Unitarian Universalist Ministry for Earth added 3 new photos. I really hope that works for the people not on Facebook.
And those were all the links that gave me fits or giggles today. Mostly fits but there were a few giggles in there.
