Well isn’t this nice, and the Feed

It was a quick trip to the grocery store today, both because we didn’t need much and because we didn’t have that big a budget to spend. We got all we needed with a few cents left over from the small budget, so everything’s good. That’s not to say we got everything we wanted, not by a long shot, but nobody will starve before next week, and we have enough ramen noodles to survive the zombie apocalypse. Not the best food for the long run but like I said, for now we are good.

Up first is a semi-famous Houston area cyclist getting hit-from-behind. ‘Naked unicyclist’ killed in La Porte crash But as the victim had previous mental issues and was riding in the “car lane” on a road with no bicycle facilities it was obviously his fault according to LEO. The only thing to make this “his fault” would be no lights or reflectors on the back of the bike, and since I don’t have access to pictures of the wrecked bike I can’t comment on if there were lights or reflectors or not. Protocols to avoid or reduce damages, and get the infrastructure “up to Dutch” to prevent.

Update on the Milt Olin case in CA. Deputy was texting before fatally hitting ex-Napster exec on bike Not much new except the knowledge that a text was being sent around the time of the wreck. We already knew of the other texts, and that the brakes were not applied until after the collision, but that the investigating officer refused to accept previous reports that the driver was not using his cell phone is new information.

Update on a wreck in West Canuckistan. Witnesses sought in crash that claimed cyclist in Richmond The more I read about this wreck, the more confused I get. Apparently the driver and passenger emerged from the wreck covered in yellow paint (which explains the yellow substance on the driver’s door panel seen in some crime scene pictures) and the vehicle was completely out of control for quite some time before hitting the cyclist waiting for the red light. Also I’m assuming the driver had no choice about the car being driven, because a Pontiac Aztek is UUUUgleee! with a capital UGH!

A wreck in the UK that was just a wreck, not something the cyclist or driver could have avoided. Tributes paid to cyclist killed on London Bridge Cyclist killed when he went around traffic and hit the curbed median and fell over that into oncoming traffic.

LEO in Oz are pretty sure this was a hit-and-run, but not 100% sure because of the lack of debris associated with the wreck. Injured cyclist may be hit-and-run victim, police say To me this sounds like a buzz job against the cyclist, someone drove their car just close enough to knock the cyclist down, but not dislodge any bits from the car. Or they may have retracted the passenger side mirror to prevent damage in the wreck. Something LEO could look at would be signs of impact, like bruising on the side facing the flow of traffic and abrasions on the off side. Hit-from-behind protocols to avoid or reduce damages, and get the infrastructure “up to Dutch” to prevent.

Infrastructure! news from SD. SF Police Focus On Cyclist, Pedestrian Safety Unfortunately they are going to be victim blaming for the most part in this “safety” campaign… “Starting Wednesday, additional officers will be out on the streets enforcing bike and pedestrian laws.” Such statements seldom result in much if any enforcement against the weapons that maim and kill, just those that get maimed or killed.

And those were all the links I found today, with more fits than giggles but only by a small margin.
