It’s Time to Stop Pretending That Roads Pay for Themselves In 2005 TX DOT said the gas tax would have to be over $4/gal just to maintain the roads they had then. It hasn’t and existing roads are pothole-filled crap now, while we build new roads as fast as the concrete can set.
