Cutting to the chase, they closed the GISD tax office as I was walking up to it at 1600. The line of people out the door were very vocally unhappy about getting turned away, to the point that police were on hand for crowd control. I think that this may have been a planned thing, because the police were there long before the office was closed. I know this because I was walking up to the door as they closed it and there was a cop inside already.

Still hurting, and the Feed
I mentioned yesterday that all the standing I did on Saturday was painful, but what I didn’t mention was the lingering discomfort from that episode, mainly because it always hurts the day after I do something stupid like that. It is particularly noticeable in my foot, because the nerve damage was most noticeable there after the wreck because the nerves that were most damaged served my foot. Normally it takes a day to completely recover after spending too much time standing around but this time was much worse, I’m still getting twinges if I step down too hard, or get up too fast, or rest my foot in the wrong position. That last one is the real bother because what is a “good” position for my foot is a bad position for my hip, and vice-versa. About the only thing that doesn’t hurt either one is laying on my side, and do you know how hard it is to type in that position? 😉
Opening up the links today, cargo bike news from America’s Copenhagen. Portland cargo bike celeb Emily Finch gets a new bike Stolen cargo bike replaced, yay!
Bike wreck in Upstate NY. Bicycle versus car sends cyclist to the hospital The narrative reads like a textbook SWSS wreck at this time. Since this was an intersection wreck and there is a tiny chance the cyclist did come off the sidewalk from the intersecting street, intersection protocols to avoid or reduce damages, and get the infrastructure “up to Dutch” to prevent.
Moving closer to NYC is this LI wreck. Cops: Drunken driver critically injures Wyandanch cyclist Wow! will you look at the deleted comments on this link? Hit-from-behind wreck with a drunk driver, but there doesn’t seem to be much damage to the bike and the cyclist survived, it’s possible the drunk was driving slow to compensate for his known lack of reaction time. So protocols, yadda yadda yadda, Infrastructure, yadda yadda yadda. I think I need another vacation.
Another SWSS wreck report from another of my old stomping grounds. Cyclist injured in collision with car may face DUI charge I’ll withhold judgement on the DUI charge until after the tox screen, but the damage to the weapon vehicle is too far over to the left to support the driver’s claim of the cyclist pulling in front of the weapon vehicle. As for the rest, hit-from-behind protocols to avoid or reduce damages, and get the infrastructure right to prevent.
Not sure if this OH wreck was a tandem bike, two up on a single bike, or pedestrian collateral damages in a bike wreck. Car-bicycle accident on Northeast Side kills 1, injures 1 Seriously with the narrative as it exists as of this writing, any of those hypothesis are equally valid. There was nothing on the direction of travel for the bike, just the car, and the only thing connecting the killed and injured to the wreck is their proximity to the wrecked bicycle. I have nothing I can say about avoiding this for whoever was riding the bike, and only getting the infrastructure “up to Dutch” for preventing it.
A totally unavoidable wreck for the cyclist involved in the Great White North. Another bicyclist injured Yet another driver crosses the centerline to hit a cyclist and nobody is thinking “attempted murder”? Gigi seems to think it was questionable since she left a comment on the link from before I got there. The only thing I can say for this wreck is get the infrastructure “up to Dutch” to prevent a repeat performance.
Another wreck in the GWN with little to no usable information. Cyclist killed after colliding with car There was a car and someone riding a bicycle and the cyclist died enroute to the hospital. The driver of the weapon vehicle did not leave the scene. Yay! and that is pretty much the entire story as I have it now. So get the infrastructure “up to Dutch” and crush the weapon vehicle to prevent another wreck in the future? IDK.
A whole bunch of the post today is coming from a small area in the Great White North. Teen killed while cycling in Scarborough This one is seriously borked. Both vehicles were heading in the same direction, but the damage was to the side of the weapon vehicle, the driver’s side to be precise. This speaks of deliberate action on the part of the 16 YO driver, to me at any rate. Protocols to avoid or reduce damages, and get the infrastructure “up to Dutch” so that idiot drivers are kept away from squishy and easily-broken people riding bicycles.
This one is strange, one of The Doctor’s companions is a suspect in a cyclist’s injuries… Billie Piper questioned by police after car involved in crash with cyclist behind Kings Cross station Not sure of what happened here because of the UK’s stringent media laws.
Our Daily Ted is highly informative as usual. Morning Links: Cyclist in critical condition after Koreatown shooting; was Marco Pantini murdered?
