Basically, the shoulder that quit working after I tapered off the Ibuprofen expecting to get different anti-inflammatory meds prescribed has not come back online after I started taking Ibuprofen again. I got an appointment to see a doctor about this, but I have to make a choice between my teeth and sleeping, because I can’t pay for both right now.
Really would be nice if TX had gone with Expanded Medicaid and dropping the requirement to completely destitute your family before getting any assistance. Rick Perry, I’m coming after you for my pain and suffering. Because you are personally responsible for flipping the bird and giving a massive F.U. to Texas’ poor people, you are financially responsible for our medical bills. And don’t think you’re getting away without paying your share, Greg Abbott, because you have had several opportunities to get TX on Expanded Medicaid and you failed to do it. So you get to fork over some of the money, too. I could see this if it was your money that you were withholding, but it’s not yours, it’s not even Texas’ money, it’s Federal Money that they are giving us to make sure the Really Poor But Not Destitute can still get access to health care.
And yes, I’m feeling a little annoyed, because I have these pains I can’t deal with except to endure them, that I wouldn’t have to endure if these assholes would have just done what’s right for poor people, instead of plotting how to make things worse for poor people because you could. Just imagine how much better things would be if instead of plotting how to make poor people suffer you just … didn’t. It would be so much easier for all involved if you just stopped trying to make things worse and sat in a corner with a good book and stopped trying to actively make things worse.
I finally paid the ER bill for the DVT that wasn’t. I went through what could only be described as a Kafkaesque fever dream of declined cards with more than enough in the account and 6 attempts to pay before finally getting the bill paid.
First I had to get the money out of the fund we had set aside for taxes and emergencies, after we got the bill I mentioned. I got the full amount out in case I had to pay the billed amount. Then I called the billing office yesterday and negotiated a lower bill, that was still too high IMHO but as I had the $$ I really didn’t feel like pursuing the matter further. Then things got really fun. First I paid the bill for the facility, which went through without a hitch. Then I tried to pay the bill for the radiologist, only to get declined in spite of having several thousand dollars more that the payment in the account (I got the money for taxes at the same time I did the money for the ER bill). Apparently I exceeded my withdrawal limit for the day, embarrassing but sh!t happens.
So I called back again the next day to complete the process, only to get declined again for the same reason, in spite of the fact that I hadn’t made any new withdrawals that day. I called my bank and demanded (in a calm voice) to know WTF was going on. And it seems “what was going on” is previous day withdrawals are not posted until 0001, and count against current day withdrawals when determining if the current withdrawal is below the limit. This is going to be tons of fun come time to pay the taxes…
So, I got a temporary increase in my limit to complete my transaction, and the total bill came to $2628.67 instead of the $3300+ billed. And because I still have short hair that’s too short to grab and pull I still have most of the hair I had at the beginning of the process.
The wreck in Kalamazoo has been dominating my social media, so I will make a comment on it myself.
But wait there’s more. The driver should be tried on 5 counts of murder, and 5 more counts of attempted murder for the 4 surviving cyclists and the pedestrian who was grazed just before the cyclists were hit. I’m serious about this. This was just as much a mass murder as the Santa Barbara shooter last year, with the added caveat the “shooter” in this case was only stopped by the failure of his weapon, which he then abandoned in an attempt to escape.
Seriously, this asshole needs to be looking at multiple consecutive life sentences without parole, along with seizure of assets to pay back victims’ medical bills and confiscation of any proceeds he gets from prison industries beyond one bar of soap a month and a new toothbrush every Christmas. I’m serious on this one, the survivors (aside from the one pedestrian who was only grazed) are looking at medical bills that will run into the millions of dollars between them. I speak from experience on this one. My bills from 15 years ago were $250K for the initial stay, with another $45K to $50K for each of the subsequent operations required to fix the things that were either missed in the initial carnage or had to wait for some healing to take place before they could be done, like removing my hardware after it was no longer needed to hold my leg together. Add 15 years of medical inflation on to that…
