I have been dropping big coin lately and I still don’t have bike to ride, and the Feed

Yep, I dropped more than $100 at the LBS again yesterday paying for a new helmet, and I still can’t ride a bike yet. I’m also not having any luck at finding the tubing to build my bike at any of the local metal supply houses. Well I should re-phrase that. I can find the stuff, they just won’t sell it to me in single bicycle quantities. They will sell to me in roughly 3200 bicycle batches, at a cost of over $10K for all the sizes I need to build this bike. That’s pretty much a non-starter for me.

A wreck in Houston that just does not make sense to me. Bicyclist fatally struck by car at Memorial Park and Cyclist dies after being hit by car in Memorial Park One report had the cyclist crossing the road and turning back, the other had the cyclist changing lanes and hit from behind. And the truth is ?

A SWCC fatality from the most deadliest state in the US to walk or ride a bike for he last 9 years running. Plant City man hit, killed while riding bicycle Intersection protocols to avoid or mitigate damages, and get the infrastructure right to prevent. Looking at the scene of the crime the cyclist would have had to cross 7 lanes of traffic in a single move, depending on which way he was going when hit. He may have had a clear place to cross when he started only to find oncoming traffic as he completed the crossing. The lack of a reservation where the cyclist could wait out traffic from either direction in a two phase crossing means this intersection will kill more cyclists in the future.

Another report on FL wreck where the driver was blamed for hitting the cyclist from behind in the bike lane. Bicylist injured in crash with truck I wish all bike wrecks that a driver hits a cyclist from behind resulted in charges. In this case the cyclist was riding in the bike lane so about the only thing I can think of would be a barrier or significant distance separating the bike lane from motor vehicle traffic.

A WI drunk driver “could not remember” hitting a cyclist laying in a pool of blood beside his car. Bicyclist Injured After Collision With Repeat Drunken Driver, Police Say Real good strategy there Bubba, hit the guy, stop because (?) and then deny you hit the guy with bicycle-shaped dents in the front of your car. Hit-from-behind wreck, use the protocols to avoid or mitigate the damage, and get the infrastructure right to prevent.

A MI man is killed in a hit-from-behind wreck. Former Rosemont casino bidder killed in Michigan bike crash MI LEO apparently consider getting hit from behind by a motor vehicle just one of the hazards of riding a bike and have not issued any citations. Use the protocols to avoid the wreck or mitigate damage in the wreck, and get the infrastructure right to prevent. I suggest educating LEO about the legal responsibilities of driving as a major early stage in developing that infrastructure. Comments are blocked for the article, but there are several reasons why that might be.

Another MI wreck as a driver turns right without looking for traffic on the sidewalk. Bicyclist Badly Hurt In Crash Sidewalk cyclist crossing with the light is hit by a driver making right on red without looking in the direction he’s going and hits someone in the crosswalk. Intersection wreck, use the protocols to avoid or to mitigate the damages, and infrastructure to prevent. I would say don’t ride on the sidewalk but given the total lack of any bicycle infrastructure in the area that might not be entirely practical.

More on the investigation to the OK cyclist that “fell” in front of traffic during a charity ride. Investigation Continues Into Cyclist’s Death Near Lake Overholser Apparently actually looking at the scene and recognizing road defects that can take down a cyclist is beyond the capacity of the investigating team.

A left cross in CO. Male cyclist dies after colliding with semi-truck in Boulder Left cross implies some kind of intersection, so intersection protocols to avoid or to mitigate damages from the wreck, and infrastructure to prevent. As part of that infrastructure inform LEO that turning in front of another vehicle so that vehicle can’t avoid hitting the turning vehicle is a violation of the law, and the driver of the turning vehicle is at fault for the resulting wreck. More Semi Strikes, Kills Bike Commuter In Boulder

A NV cyclist is seriously injured after getting hit from behind. Bicyclist seriously injured after colliding with pickup in Fernley I can’t believe they are blaming the cyclist getting hit from behind for the wreck because he wasn’t wearing a helmet, but that certainly appears to be the case. Hit-from-behind protocols to avoid the wreck or mitigate injury, and get the infrastructure right to prevent.

A genuinely suicidal swerving cyclist in CA. Police: man rides bike into path of truck, severely injured A witness not in one of the cars reported the cyclist was “swerving in and out of traffic” just before he got hit. Another driver reported the same thing from a few minutes earlier.

That UK driver who got 300 hours of community service for being a serial bicyclist killer is potentially facing a stiffer sentence. Cyclist death sentence ‘lenient’ It’s not like he got off scot-free, I mean he can’t drive for 5 whole years! in addition to the 300 hours of community service, for killing a cyclist for the second time in his life. But the judge that sentenced him won’t have to live with the consequences of cyclist-killing drivers allowed back on the roads, he has a car that can be hit at 30 mph without even damaging the interior latches, that can drive head-on into a concrete wall at 35 MPH and all the occupants walk away unscathed and without assistance even to open the doors. More Motorist who killed cyclist has had his sentence deemed ‘unduly lenient’ in court and Motorist’s sentence for killing cyclist ‘too lenient’

That UK pinball wreck has resulted in a second arrest. Two held in custody after cyclist killed Considering the strict laws in the UK for media reporting on crimes, this is a major revelation that even the driver of the motor vehicle that was hit and propelled into the cyclist was doing something that contributed to the wreck or the fatality as a result of the wreck resulting in being charged for the wreck.

A wreck in Enn Zed results in a cyclist fatality. Boy killed in bike accident named Apparently the cyclist fell and hit something that injured his neck or throat causing death in a single vehicle (just the bicycle) wreck. This is such a freak possibility that I don’t know how to avoid or prevent it. Even my full-face bike helmet (which I am replacing with an identical model and color BTW) would not have helped much in this wreck.

Infrastructure! news from the next city over from the Beautiful Suburbs of Hell. Bike Racks May Be Required At Dallas Businesses

An SC city has an interesting method of fighting bicycle theft. Police use GPS-equipped bait bicycle to make larceny arrest I wish my bike had GPS tracking when it was stolen.

UK infrastructure news is not very good even when it is good. Another ‘record announcement’ Yep a one-time expenditure of “barely £1 per person per year in England” is not going to buy much paint. To place this in perspective the Netherlands spends $43 per capita on bicycle infrastructure per year, plus an equal amount on non-infrastructure items like bike parking. Here in the US we spend $5,251 per capita on highways strictly for cars and a similar amount on other streets and roads, to the detriment of our health and safety, but almost nothing on bicycle infrastructure, less than 1% of what we spend on highways. And even that dwarfs the total budget per capita in the UK.

LifeStyle from TX. Concert planned to raise funds for injured firefighter The man was injured riding his bike in a bike lane…
